Pirate Wrestler Peyton Cannon finished fourth at District and is going to Regionals this weekend in Spangle. Here Cannon pins Waitsburg Wrestler Koyen Fortune in his opening-round win.

SPOKANE–A trio of Pirate wrestlers cleared District and will wrestle at Regionals this weekend in Spangle.

Curtis Winona pinned Ritzville and Reardan opponents but sustained an injury, causing an injury default in the championship round and a second-place finish in the 190 lb. class.

Peyton Cannon and Kole Zimmerman worked through difficult brackets to finish fourth and berths at Regionals. Pirate Levi Bowen has been dealing with a lingering injury this week, and went through District as an injury default so will be an alternate at Regionals.

"Curtis wrestled well to finish his day with two pins," said Head Coach Mat Slaybaugh. "Unfortunately, he got a little banged up in the semifinals resulting in the need to injury default in his finals match putting him in second place."

"Peyton Cannon and Kole Zimmerman both battled some tough league competition to finish fourth and secure their spots," Slaybaugh said.

The top three placers from regionals will advance to the state tournament Feb. 16-17.

Winona pinned Branham of Ritzville and Kline of Reardan and would've faced Brock Gustaveson of Davenport except for the injury.

Cannon (175) pinned Fortune of Waitsburg, lost to Holling of Liberty by an 8-1 decision, won by 7-4 decision over Redburn of Ritzville before being pinned by McLaughlin of Reardan.

Zimmerman (65) pinned Whitmore of Waitsburg, then he was pinned by Holling of Liberty and Hamilton of NW Christian.

An injury last weekend cut Bowen out of the tourney. He'll be an alternate.
