POMEROY––The Pirate nine won decisively over the Touchet Redhawks in the baseball season opener here Tuesday, taking the first game 11-8 and ten-running Touchet 18-3.

"In the first inning, we came out strong, making some excellent defensive plays in the infield," said Head Coach Kyler Lovgren. "Trace Roberts led us at the plate going four for four including a home run. I was really impressed with the play of Conrad Nelson, an eighth grader in his first high school baseball game who came in as our reliever and picked up the save."

In the second game, the Pirates "got the bats going," Lovgren said.

Ollie Severs launched a home run over the left field fence in the second inning that was one of the longest hits seen by the coach out of Pomeroy's field. "It substantially cleared the fence at about the 345-foot sign," he said. Roberts was three for three with two triples.

"I thought we performed well offensively in this game with both hitting and base running," Lovgren said. "We were able to close the game in three innings with the 15-run mercy rule.

"I'm really happy with how are team started off the season," he said.
