Former Pomeroy coach and teacher Jay Bender celebrated his 100th birthday on Monday, March 18, 2024. Many of his students and friends left birthday wishes on a Facebook post, including Susan Morrow, who remembered Mr. Bender for setting an example of integrity and honesty with his students. Bill Stanley posted a photo of Mr. Bender presenting him with a trophy, and Yvonne Shimek remarked that he "inspired so many students over your many years."
