Lady Pirate Hannah Bagby gives teammate Izzy Field the thumb's up as she touches home plate in Pomeroy's rally and 18-14 win over Prairie last week. Field scored three runs and had three hits plus an RBI. Bagby had five plate appearances, three hits, including a pair of doubles, and two RBIs.

POMEROY––The Lady Pirates broke two tie scores and jumped ahead of the Prairie Pirates with six runs in the fifth inning, winning their first game of the 2024 campaign 18-14 at home March 20.

Tekoa-Rosalia handed the team a pair of losses on the home diamond, and with a rematch played earlier this week at Tekoa-Rosalia, a home game today against Yakama Nation Tribal followed by a double header at Colton the next day, March 29, the team will be ready for Spring Vacation.

Kendyll Potoschnick hit a triple and a double in the win over Prairie. "The Lady Pirates had a great game today!" exclaimed Head Coach Alexis Beale. "The Lady Pirates battled hard for their win today both on defense and in the batter's box."

Hannah Bagby, Taylor Gilber and Caroline McKeirnan all hit doubles in the game which started with Prairie taking a 7-6 lead after two innings.

The Lady Bucs tied it seven all in the third and both teams scored two runs in the fourth for a 9-9 tie.

In the bottom of the fifth, Pomeroy came alive with six runs and the 15-9 lead, then kept the Prairie base runners off home plate in the sixth and seventh while Pomeroy chalked up three more runs.

Bagby pitched 2.1 innings, giving up one hit, striking out four and walking seven. Molly Warren relieved and allowed only one hit as well, striking out four and walking eight.

Versus T-R, Pomeroy pitchers only gave up seven hits but the defense was tagged with three errors as the Timberwolves took a seven-run lead and never looked back.

"The Lady Pirates battled hard this game all the way to the end. Taylor Gilbert had an amazing first game at the pitching mound," Beale commented. "Between stealing and base hits the Lady Pirates came close at the end."

Gilbert had "an amazing first game" in the pitcher's circle, Beale said.

Field hit a triple and Bagby and K. Potoschnick each hit a double.
