POMEROY––The Pomeroy Pirates head into Spring Break with a handful of wins and games to be played before the week off.

The Bucs played a single header at St. John Tuesday, and visit Colton for a twin bill tomorrow, March 29.

SJEL visited Friday, March 22, and went away smarting after a four-inning 16-2 drubbing called after four innings because of lightning. "Trace Roberts threw a no hitter, Peyton Cannon went 3 for 3 and Vinny Vecchio went 3 for 4," said Head Coach Kyler Lovgren.

In the opener against the Eagles, the Pirates cranked up 10 runs in the bottom of the first while Ollie Severs threw a no-hitter and walked just one, striking out seven.

Severs and Roberts were three of three at the plate for the Buccaneers, Lovgren said. Smacking doubles were Kyzer Herres, Peyton Cannon, Severs and Roberts with three.

The "Walk the Plank" wood bat game against the Prairie Pirates was won 12-5 by Pomeroy.

"It was another great game for the 'Walk the Plank' Wood bat series between the Pomeroy Pirates and the Prairie Pirates," Lovgren said. "We were able to come away with the win thanks to great defense and stable pitching.

"Nolan Newberg got his first start of his high-school career on the mound for us," Lovgren said. "The eighth grader was able to consistently throw strikes and our defense backed him up getting 11 put outs for the 12 outs he pitched."
