POMEROY-The Garfield County Board of Commissioners (BOCC) approved funding for the City Park tennis court retrofit project and the Chamber of Commerce sign project at their meeting on April 1, and opened several bids at their meeting on April 8.

The commissioners designated $12,500 from the paths and trails fund for the restoration and refitting of the tennis court at the Pomeroy City Park. The project entails placing new concrete, painting, and retrofitting it for pickleball. Basketball standards will also be placed on the court. Lighting for the project will include lights for the court and fixing three park lights that were damaged by tree felling last fall. The commissioners also approved $1,600 from the economic development fund for Pomeroy Chamber of Commerce's sign project that will place directional signs on Main Street.

The BOCC discussed funding options for a jury system update. A bid from Jury Systems Inc. for $44,390 was discussed, as well as funding sources which include the county DUI fund, the court improvement fund, and American Rescue Plan Act funds as well. No decision has been made on the matter.

At their April 8 meeting, the commissioners opened bids for asphalt, as well as for the Eastern Washington Agricultural Museum's parking lot paving project. Poe Asphalt & Paving was the apparent low bidder for commercial hot mix asphalt and patching at $16,324 for 200 tons, and Ergon Asphalt & Emulsions submitted a bid for oil in the amount of $125,396.70 for 165 tons. The bids are under review for completeness and approval is pending.

The commissioners approved funding from the county's Local Assistance and Tribal Consistency Funds for repair of Public Works' fiber internet line that was damaged by a switch failure, as well as a license upgrade to the department's server software. The repair will cost $1,613.39 and the upgrade $775.
