Pirate golf prospects 'good'

POMEROY––Pirate Golf is looking forward to Sub-Districts Monday, May 6 on Clarkston's Red Wolf Golf Course.

"I believe our prospects are very good heading into the post season," says Head Coach Al Damron. "We will be sending all five of our players to sub-district on Monday along with 37 from the other seven schools in our district. There will be 28 boys and 16 girls playing.

"Happily," Damron said, "our players are playing their best golf of the season right now, which is what any coach wants to see. All five have a real chance to move on to district and some on to state."

Damron said from sub-district, half of the field plus any ties will advance on to district at Sage Hills in Warden on May 13. The top six boys and five girls, plus an alternate boy and girl, will move on to the state tournament in Tumwater on May 21 and 22.

Sub-district and district scores will be combined to determine state berths, Damron added.

At Walla Walla's Veterans Memorial on April 22, Reggie Ott and Grayson Slaybaugh tied for fifth with 90 in the 18-hole, par 72 match. Tyler Dixon carded a 107.

Kiersten Bartels topped the women's field and finished one stroke ahead of DeSales golfer Tori Kimble with a 104.
