Three Pirate golfers to State

WARDEN–Pirate golfers Kiersten Bartels, Reggie Ott and Elena Morfin will be slinging their golf clubs at the State Golf Match in Tumwater May 21-22.

Kiersten Bartels scored a two-day total of 218 at the Southeast 1B District tournament to finish fourth among the girls at Sage Hills Golf Club here, according the Head Coach Al Damron.

"She advances to the State Tournament in Tumwater next Tuesday and Wednesday," says Damron.

Bartels fired a 112 on the front nine and did better with 106 on the back nine.

Pirate teammate Reggie Ott finished in fifth on the boys' side with a total of 192. Ott carded 102 during the first round and on the back nine he improved to 90.

Elena Morfin will be the girls' alternate. At the Warden meet, she had 113 strokes on the front and 125 on the back for a 238 and sixth.

Grayson Slaybaugh shot a 117 on the front nine and 116 on the back for a 233 score.

A total of 28 boys and 14 girls started the two-day event with six boys and five girls advancing to state.
