Commissioners Nelson and Ledgerwood seek re-election unopposed

POMEROY–The filing period for 2024 candidates has closed and no local races have developed.

The Garfield County District 1 Commissioner candidate is Jim Nelson, a Republican, running unopposed. Garfield County District 2 Commissioner Larry Ledgerwood is also running unopposed. Ledgerwood states no party preference. Incumbent Brooke J. Burns is running unopposed for Judge Position 1 in Garfield, Asotin, and Columbia Superior Court.

The race for U.S. Representative for Congressional District 5 is quite full since Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers announced intentions to not seek re-election. Candidates for this position are Jacquelin Maycumber, Michael Baumgartner, Rick Valentine Flynn, Rene Holaday, Jonathan D. Bingle, and Brian Dansel are running on the Republican ticket; and Carmela Conroy, Ann Marie Danimus, Matthew Welde, Bernadine Bank, and Bobbi Bennett-Wolcott are on the Democrat ticket.

The 9th Legislative District senatorial candidate is Mark G. Shoesler, running unopposed on the Republican ticket. Seeking the State Representative Position 1 position is incumbent Mary Dye-Republican, and Patrick Miller, a Democrat. The two candidates for State Representative Position 2 are incumbent Republican Joe Schmick, and Democrat challengers Pam Kohmeier and Arianna Arends.

Filing for Garfield County Precinct Committee Officers are Democrats David Webb, Tom Fitzsimmons, and Molly Orheim, and Republicans Roger Dye, Naomi Scoggin, Vonda Mulrony, and Jonathan Kusler. All PCO races are uncontested.

The U.S. Senator position candidates are Dr. Raul Garcia, Mel Ram, Isaac A. Holyk, Scott Nazarino and Goodspaceguy running on the Republican ticket; and incumbent Maria Cantwell, along with Paul Lawrence Giesick are on the Democrat ticket. Independent candidates are Thor Amundson and Chuck Jackson; and David Tilton is running as a non-partisan. Henry Clay Dennison is running on the Socialist Workers platform.

In the race for Washington State Governor, the Democrat ticket includes Cassondra Magdalene Hanson, Mark Mullet, EL'ona Kearney, Ricky Anthony, Bob Ferguson, Chaytan Inman, Don L Rivers, Fred Grant, and Edward Cale IV. On the Republican ticket are Jim Daniel, Martin Lee Wheeler, Jennifer Hoover, Dave Reichert, Leon A. Lawson, A.L. Brown, Bill Hirt and Semi Bird. Independent candidates are Jeff Curry, Frank Dare and William Combs. Brad Mjelde and Jim Clark state no party preference, Rosetta Marshall-Williams is running on the Independence platform, Brian Bogan is running as nonpartisan, Michael DePaula is a Libertarian, Andre Stackhouse is running on the Green platform, and Alex Tsimerman is running on the Standup-America party.

One race for State Supreme Court Justice positions is contested, while two others are not. Running for Justice Position 2 are Dave Larson, Sal Mungia, David R. Shelvey, and Todd A. Bloom. Steve Gonzalez is running unopposed for Position 8, and Sheryl Gordon McCloud is running for Position 9.

On the Democratic ticket for Lieutenant Governor are David Griffin, and Denny Heck, with Patrick "Pat" Harman, Bob Hagglund, and Dan Matthews on the Republican ticket. For the Secretary of State position, Democrats Marquez Tiggs and Steve Hobbs, run against Republican Dale Whitaker, as well as Damon Townsend who is running under the No Labels party.

The State Auditor position, Republican Matt Hawkins is running against Democrat Pat (Patrice) McCarthy, while Democrat Mike Pellicciotti and Republican Sharon Hanek face off for the position of State Treasurer. For the Attorney General position, Republican Pere Serrano races Nick Brown and Manka Dhingra of the Democrat party.

The Commissioner of Public Lands have several seekers; Jaime Herrera Beutler and Sue Kuehl Pederson are running on for the Republican party and Allen Lebovitz, Dave Upthegrove, Patrick DePoe, Jeralee Anderson, and Kevin Van De Wege are running on the Democrat ticket.

The Insurance Commissioner race pits Democrats Patty Kuderer, Chris D. Chung, Bill Boyd, and John Pestinger against Republicans Phil Fortunato and Justin Murta, as well as Tim Verzal and Jonathan Hendrix who state no party preference.

Chris Reykdal, Reid Saaris, John Patterson Blair and David Olson are running for the position of Superintendent of Public Instruction, a nonpartisan office.
