Herbert champion in hammer throw

ELLENSBURG–Former Pomeroy High School track and field standout Destany Herbert is continuing her winning ways in the 2024 outdoor track and field competition.

She recently won the hammer throw at the GNAC 2024 Outdoor Track and Field Championships here May 10-11. Her effort of 49.57 m. or 162-7 was good enough for first place. She made a 14.00 m. (45-11.25) throw in the shot put for a second-place finish.

Herbert was also named to the 2024 Division II Outdoor Track & Field All-Region team in the shot put and hammer. The honor is the fourth and fifth Outdoor All-Region honors in Herbert's career, and ninth and 10th overall, including indoor during the senior's time in Nampa. Across the West Region, Herbert's best shot put mark this season of 14.34 meters was third, behind Azusa Pacific's Hannah Richardson and Concordia's Sarah Fajer. In the hammer, she was fourth regionally with her top throw of 49.57 meters.
