A Teen's Take

June 25, 2020

POMEROY–The pool opened last Friday, June 19 with a free swim day. It was such a welcome time and eased kids mind that they will be able to splash and cool off during the hot months of summer. When there was a question rather the pool would open or not, I’ve heard people say how sad it would be without it. They understood it wouldn’t be the end of the world, but for little kids, summer without a pool would be terrible.

Yes, we know we can still see friends throughout the summer and do fun things, but there is something about going to the pool that makes the whole summer great.

When I was little, I remember begging my mom to let us go to the pool on my own. I would go and spend hours there and being able to go by myself, taught me to be responsible for my own things. If I lost my money, well, it was me who didn’t get the snack I wanted.

I think my favorite memories from the pool was learning how to dive and do all the different strokes. I was also on swim team; so, in the afternoons and evenings, I would do a lot of swimming. With a little help from a lifeguard and one of my best friends, I finally learned my strokes and diving. To this day he still mentions how he taught me everything

I can’t imagine what summer would have been like had the poo not opened and I don’t want to know. I am so grateful it was allowed to open this year and hope everyone gets a chance to enjoy it at some time during the summer.
