A Teen's Take

December 10, 2020

POMEROY–It is so very important to have a person or people close to you, someon you can rely on. For me, I have one person and she is my absolute best friend. She will call me out on poor behavior or choices and speak honestly with me about what I am about to do or not do. She’ll spend four hours making a gingerbread house with me and laugh at all of my embarrassing moments, of which there are quite a few to date. If it came down to it, she is the person I would want by my side during the zombie apocalypse. She is my person and I think everyone needs a person.

People most often they enjoy being alone or they’re too independent to involve other people in their life. A major excuse I hear a lot is that “I am too anti-social” which in my opinion is just that—an excuse. You can be as antisocial all you want, but the truth is, if you spend your time avoiding people, you are limiting yourself to a very narrow perspective of life and could possibility miss out on getting to know the best person you’ve ever met. Sometimes you have to take a leap of faith for the possibility of a great reward.

People should take that leap because it helps one grow in ways, they couldn’t all by themselves and good things come from opening up to other people. That is how I met someone very near and dear to my heart and I think everyone needs someone like my best friend.

Everyone needs their own person who they can create memories with, help build character and confidence and someone to share those critical moments with, like the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions. The connection with establish with our special person or people help us thrive.

I hope everyone had an amazing week and you are getting you holiday spirit on!
