Adverse conditions hindered shoot

POMEROY–Strong winds hampered the fourth Camas Prairie Shoot for members of the local gun club, resulting in lower than average scores.

Southeast winds on Sunday caused problems for the east facing trap machines making right hand targets go high and left flying targets driven down resulting some difficult conditions and poor scores.

Junior shooters had a nicer day on Saturday which was reflected in their scores. In the 12-year-old and younger division Levi Bowen shot a 20 in the 16-yard event and Rozlyn Magill recorded a 17. Peyton Cannon led the youngsters with a 17 in Handicap.

Sub juniors (13-15 Years old) were led by the 22 of Nick Hastings in the 16-yard singles event, while Oliver Severs and Mason Garcia recorded 18s. In Handicap for the Juniors; Severs had a 19, Brodie Magill posted an 18 and Garcia had a 17.

The junior division (age 16 through 18 years) were paced by Logan Ledgerwood with a 23, Caleb Barron, Tyson Kimble, Junior Magill and Troy Steele all posted 22s. In Handicap Steele had a 21 and Logan posted a 20.

A group of senior shooters posted 23s on Sunday, to lead the Club in the 16–yard. event, the list included Beau Blachly, Buck Geiger, Terry John, Lee Koller, and Clark Capwell. Mason Blachly posted the high score in Handicap with a 23 and Brian Heitstuman broke a 22.

In Continentals, Larry Bunch and Luke Ledgerwood had 24s to lead the field and Tracy Hanger and Wayne Tetrick posted 22s.

Travis Ledgerwood posted the high score of the day, and the year so far in doubles with a 47 and Luke Ledgerwood had a 44.

After three weeks of the 10-week competition, the local juniors were in eighth place in the 24-team field and the senior club is in 18th place overall. Shooting resumes at the club Saturday, February 6.
