POMEROY–Once again luck was not on the side of Pomeroy Gun Club members during Week 9 of the Camas Prairie Competition. A stiff breeze plagued shooters once again this past weekend, on both days. Juniors shooters faced the stiffer breeze on Saturday and scores were down a bit. POMEROY–The Pomeroy Gun Club enjoyed nicer weather and better shooting conditions during week 8 of the Camas Prairie Shoot, and for the most part that was reflected in some good scores this past weekend. Rowdy Cole, 12, was probably the most surprising star of Week 8 of the 10-week shoot as he recorded a 24X25 in the 12-year-old and under division during the 16-yard event and then turned around and broke a perfect 25 in the Handicap competition to lead all the youngest shooters. • Saturday's winds help youth's shooting averages

    Larry Bunch|Feb 29, 2024

POMEROY–Severe winds during the seventh week of Camas Prairie competition plagued Pomeroy Gun Club members once again. This time winds were the area's customary southwest variety and hit shooters from behind rather than right in the face, so targets were a little easier to set for consistency than that of east wind targets of previous weeks. The Youth shooters had a little better condition on Saturday, than the adults dealt with on Sunday. In the 12-year-old and under division, Rowdy Cole o...

    Larry Bunch|Feb 15, 2024

POMEROY–The fifth week of the 10-week Camas Prairie Competition started out well for Pomeroy Gun Club members as the first squad on Sunday enjoyed calm winds and nice conditions. Brian Bingman took advantage of the opportunity and broke a perfect 25 and Sean Beale only missed one for an early score of 24. After the squad was done, blustery weather with snow squalls blew in and made the day much more difficult for other shooters. The youth shooters had fair conditions on Saturday, but a...

  • Erratic east winds present challenges

    Larry Bunch|Feb 8, 2024

POMEROY– A fairly-stiff east wind caused some erratic target flight preventing gun club shooters from breaking a perfect 25 during week four of the Camas Prairie Association competition. East winds are difficult since the Traps face that direction so shooters have the breeze right in their faces. On Saturday Rowdy Cole continued his good shooting in the 12-year-old and under division with a 22X25 score to lead the 16-Yard competition. Rowdy also led in the Handicap event with a score of 21. C...

POMEROY–Week two temperatures in the High 30s seemed like a heat wave to the Pomeroy Gun Club members after the subzero temperatures in week one of the Camas Prairie ten-week competition. With the improved weather conditions, scores also were better for the adults. Youth shooters started the weekend on Saturday with a little tougher condition than what the adults faced on Sunday. In the 12-year-old and under division Rowdy Cole was the top 16-yd. shooter with a score of 20X25 and Carter B...

  • Weather dictates limited shoot at Gun Club

    Larry Bunch|Jan 18, 2024

POMEROY–After beautiful fall weather, and an early winter that was quite pleasant, "Old Man Winter" reared his head and dealt a subzero blow to the first week of Pomeroy Gun Club's Camas Prairie shoot. Due to the brutal weather the Club shot a limited program in week one and will make up some events this coming weekend. The youth shooters were greeted with below zero temperatures on Saturday January 13, and an east wind of over 10 miles per hour, that made shooting painfully difficult. The 1...

  • Pomeroy Gun Club

    Larry Bunch|Mar 2, 2023

POMEROY–Mother nature dealt the Pomeroy Gun Club members another "blow" during this past weekend's shooting activities at the local range. The blow was gusty winds that affected target flight on both days. Targets can be set on the trap machines in steady winds but when winds gust target flight is unpredictable and problems are created for shooters. The 12-year-old and under16-yard competition, on Saturday, Luke Collier had the best weekend score of 17. Carter Barron posted the best Handicap s...
