Fallen Veteran's Memorial dedication ceremony Saturday

POMEROY–A dedication service for the Fallen Veteran's Memorial located at the east entrance of the Pomeroy City Cemetery will be held on Saturday, May 29, 2021, at 12 p.m.

Prior to the ceremony, the Garfield County Fire District will place flags on the headstones of all veterans as well as those of the women's auxiliary. Volunteers are welcome to help place the flags for this annual Memorial Day activity Saturday morning at 8 a.m.

The monument was in place prior to Memorial Day last year, but no ceremony was held at that time due to COVID-19 restrictions.

All persons named on the monument have a connection to Garfield County, and the public is invited to join in honoring those who lost their lives while serving their country during times of war. Many of the men listed still have relatives living in this area and they are especially encouraged to attend along with active duty or retired military.

Not only is this a way to be of service to those who gave so much to us, but also a great teaching opportunity for people to discover and learn about the different veteran flag markers at the graves, going all the way back to the Civil War veterans (both Union and Confederate) and the Spanish-American War.
