Garfield County Museum returns to winter schedule

October 7, 2021

POMEROY–The Garfield County Museum (GCM) has returned to the winter schedule, Fridays at 1–4 p.m. The museum will also be available for pre-scheduled private, school or visitor tours.

The volunteer staff at the GCM enjoyed having students from Mrs. Mave’s 5th grade class visit the museum. “They were such a delightful group of young people,” said Muriel Bott. “During the visit, it was discovered some students’ families were pioneers in Garfield County, and we found information to share with them.”

Many visitors, particularly the women, enjoy our Roseville Pottery display, donated by Margaret Wolf. Some are considered rare pieces of pottery.

Land record ledgers, showing when property was bought and sold are being used more now by people tracing their family history. They were helpful for those doing the Mayview Tour on September 25.

Other special historical attractions are some beautiful gowns; one especially was the gown worn by Mrs. Stevenson at the Governor’s Inaugural Ball.

It is a pleasure sharing the history of Garfield County and invite you to come and visit. Make reservations for your next tour at 509-843–3925.
