Gun Club Mother Nature mixes it up over weekend

February 24, 2022

POMEROY–High scores and high weather change were exhibited at the seventh week at the Camas Prairie Shoot Competition here over the last weekend.

Weather provided mixed conditions which proved a major problem for the Pomeroy Gun Club Juniors during week seven Saturday, February 19. Even more was experienced by the Adults, who shot through about every kind of weather Mother Nature could offer Sunday, February 20, but good scores prevailed.

During the Saturday shoot, the 12-year-old and younger Youth were led in the 16-yard event by the scores of 16X25 shot by Magnus Edwards and the 15 shot by Carter Barron in constant gusty winds. Edwards and Barron managed a pair of 17s to lead the Youngsters in Handicap.

In Sub Junior competition, Braxton McKeirnan shot a very good 23 and Gunner Magill had a 20 in the 16 yd. event. McKeirnan and Magill posted scores of 21 each to lead that group in Handicap.

The Juniors were led in singles by scores of 20 shot by Caleb Barron and Troy Steele. Barron had the top score in Handicap for the group with a 20, and Nick Hastings and Tyler Bagby posted scores of 19.

The Adult shooters had a little bit better time of it on Sunday, shooting between rain, snow, and sleet showers. Ray Endicott posted his first career 25 in his second year of competing in the CPTA competition.

Wayne Tetrick also posted his third 25 of the season, while Jim Adams and Larry Bunch put up scores of 24; just one target each shy of giving the Senior Club a perfect score for the week. Lee Blachly, Buck Geiger and Steve Brown had scores of 23.

In Handicap Sean Beale and Mason Blachly had 24s and Tetrick managed a 23.

Kenny Bott posted the Clubs second perfect 25 of the year in Continentals. Travis Ledgerwood posted a 24, and Jim Adams, Larry Bunch and Buck Geiger managed scores of 23.

Tracy Hanger beat all the Boys in Doubles with an outstanding 47 X 50 score in less than favorable conditions. Jim Adams put a 44 on the scoreboard.

During Colton’s registered shoot on Saturday, Jim Adams was the Veteran Winner in Singles and Holly Ledgerwood did the Pomeroy contingent proud with a 96 to take High Lady Honors. Those two scores were very good in very windy and difficult conditions. Adams lives in Clarkston but has been shooting this year with the Pomeroy Club.

After seven weeks of competition, the Pomeroy Youth are in eighth place in the 24-team field, a drop of one place since last week. The Adult shooters are in 13th place. The Adults were in 18th place a few weeks ago but have had three pretty good weeks, which helped them move up.

Three weeks remain in the CPTA competition and shooting will resume this Saturday and Sunday for week eight.
