Pomeroy Gun Club presents 2022 awards

The Pomeroy Gun Club finalized its winter league shooting season this last weekend, March 27, 2022 at an annual award potluck and meeting. It was a very enjoyable gathering, warm pleasant weather, good company and conversations. POMEROY–Local Gun Club members culminated their 2022 Winter League season with their Annual Fun Day, potluck barbecue and business meeting along with the annual awards for top Youth and Adult shooters in several categories. Beautiful Spring weather blessed the day on Sunday March 27.

The Junior shooters started the day with fun and shooting games on one of the two Trap Fields and the Adults shot 50 16–yard targets on the other Trap Field.

The Adults are classed based on their 10-week averages and competed in four classes. Winners for the day were Buck Geiger in "A" Class with a perfect 50 straight for the first time in his career. Tracy Hanger and Jim Adams were close behind with scores of 49. "B" Class was captured by Kenny Bott with a 48, "C" Class went to Mitch McGreevy with a 47 and Matt Fitzgerald took "D" Class with a 41.

Junior Awards were presented at the annual business meeting to nine kids and those included 16–yard 12-year-old and under Champion, Carter Barron. 12 and under Girls, Carmen Fruh. Sub Junior 16-yard, Mason Garcia. Handicap Sub Junior, Ollie Severs. Junior 16-yard Champion, Nick Hastings. Junior Handicap Champion, Caleb Barron. The Sub Junior High Overall Champion was Braxton McKeirnan, and the Junior High Overall Champion was won by Troy Steele.

The New shooter award was captured by Magnus Edwards. Mason Garcia and Brady Bott were recognized for shooting perfect 25s for the first time in their careers during the 10-week season.

Adult Champions for the year included Clark Capwell in "A" Class singles, Holly Ledgerwood "B" Class Singles, Mason Blachly "C" Class Singles, and Butch Burgess "D" Class Singles. Pearl Blachly was the Lady Singles Champion. Bryan McKeirnan was the club Handicap Champion and Larry Bunch was the Veteran Handicap Champion. Tracy Hanger took the Trophy for Doubles and Travis Ledgerwood was the Continental Winner.

The clubs top two shooters for the year were Wayne Tetrick who won the High All–Around trophy which is based on 16 yard and Handicap targets combined. Buck Geiger won the High Overall Trophy which is based on 16–yard, Handicap, Continentals, and Doubles combined.

Election of Officers followed the awards and a unanimous vote was cast to retain all current officers. Travis Ledgerwood is President, Terry John remained Vice President, Tracy Hanger retained Secretary, Larry Bunch is Treasurer and reporter.

Ben Feider was elected to a vacant Board member position and Luke Ledgerwood, Steve Ledgerwood and Wayne Tetrick were retained on the Board of Directors.

The club's next big event will be the Sausage Shoot December 11, 2022 and the next 10–week will start on the second Sunday in January 2023.

The gun club will be open for practice on most Sundays at 1 p.m. throughout the rest of this year. Registered shoots in the area sometimes interfere with the local practice as shooters travel to those events.
