RICHLAND–Big plays given up by the Pirates were crucial breakdowns in their second loss of the season by 54-20 here Friday, October 21.

The Pirates are now 4-2 in 1B Southeast 8-Man standings, and the team looks forward to another long road trip to 5-2 Sunnyside Christian, the kickoff at Sunnyside High School's football field set for 6 p.m.

"Next up is a must-win for the Pirates versus the Sunnyside Christian Knights, who are also looking for that third and final playoff spot," commented Head Coach Kyle Kimble.

The Pirates counted 341 yards of total offense, eclipsing LC's 233 yards.

"We moved the ball well," Kimball noted. "We just couldn't get into the end zone. We made too many mistakes and couldn't seem to sustain drives. We also gave up too many big plays on defense."

Liberty's big plays included a 60-yard Keegan Bishop to Sam Culver scoring pass, a 90-yard Bishop run to paydirt and Charlie Branning's 87-yard scamper for six.

The Patriots had built a 30-0 lead before the Pirates scored on a three-yard Trevin Kimble punch into the end zone.

Liberty answered with three more touchdowns, then the Pirates capped the game with a couple of touchdowns in the fourth quarter: a Jett Slusser throw to Braedon Fruh of 19 yards, and Kyzer Herres rambling 22 yards in for the score with a minute to play.

Kimble carried the ball 30 times for 134 yards and completed three of 12 for 61 yards to lead the Pirate offense. Kimble was second in tackles with three solo and one assist behind Trace Roberts with four solo and 1 assist. Boone Schmidt made two tackles and a pair of assists, and Walker Flynn had two solo tackles and an assist. Brodie Magill and Herres both made two solo tackles.
