Jr. Hi Volleyball undefeated

The Pomeroy Jr. High girl’s volleyball team took two matches this week, defeating All Saints on January 23 at home and then traveling to Colfax on January 26. The Jr. High A team is now 3-0 on the season.

“I was really pleased with how well we played in our first home match,” said Coach Adam Van Vogt. “The girls were focused and composed despite being excited and even a bit nervous playing at home for the first time this season.”

Pomeroy served 89% as a team and controlled the serving game, he said. When the ball came back over, the team did an excellent job of setting up pass/set/spike sequences and finished with 11 kills as a team.

Against Colfax, the team did much of the same, Van Vogt said. “We served a little lower, at 87%, but considering we are serving all overhand that is still a solid jr. high percent,” he said.

Colfax rallied more with Pomeroy and the team’s freeball passing in particular was good, he said.

We had 17 kills as a team and Carmen Fruh (7 kills) and Molly Warren (6 kills) led a potent middle attack, Van Vogt said. “Haven Kimble added her best all-around match of the year with a season-high 4 kills as well as five assists.

“Our girls also had an impressive accomplishment in that we won game three 15-0,” he added.

Hollie Van Vogt didn’t miss a serve in the game and had several of her match-high 10 aces in addition to her seven assists on the night.

When Colfax did get the ball over our passing and defense kept our run going to accomplish the rare 15-0 feat, he said. “The game-three win caps off two weeks of really good volleyball by this group.”
