Ollie Severs whammed two doubles in the Pirates' 13-0 win over Liberty-Spangle last week. He caught five different pitchers in the first game a 19-3 loss, then started on the mound in the second game, he, Gunner Magill and Trace Roberts combining for 10 strikeouts and zero runs in the five-inning contest.

POMEROY––Young Pirate pitchers got a chance to test their talents in the season's opening double header here March 14, with Liberty-Spangle taking a 19-3 win in the opener then Pomeroy winning the nightcap 13-0. The Buccoes tied Asotin JV 3-3 on March 16 and fell to Clarkston JVs 15-5 on March 18.

Pomeroy had Prairie on the schedule last Tuesday at Shepherd Field, and will visit Sunnyside Christian Saturday. They wrap the pre-Spring Break schedule at home against Liberty Christian on March 31.

At Clarkston last weekend, the Baby Bantams jumped on the Pirates with seven runs in the first and eight in the second then held Pomeroy to five runs for the 15-5 mercy-rule win.

Ollie Severs pitched three innings, giving up four hits and three walks while striking out five. Jett Slusser tossed the fourth inning, allowing two hits, five walks and striking out two.

Pomeroy's five hits came from Trevin Kimble, Brodie Magill, Trace Roberts, Severs and Nick Bryson, Kimble and Bryson hitting doubles.

At Asotin on March 16, Asotin scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to tie it 3-3 without extra innings. The Pirates had tied it 1-1 with a top-of-the-third run then rallied with two runs in the top of the seventh for a 3-2 lead.

Kimble pitched four innings, giving up six hits, walking two, striking out two and allowing one run. Severs relieved for two innings, allowing three hits, walking two, striking out three and one run. Roberts finished with one inning pitched, one hit, one run and one strike out with two walks.

Roberts and Kimble each hit doubles, Kimble getting four hits in four at-bats, and one run batted it.

In the season opener, Liberty ran away with a 14-run sixth inning for the 19-3 win.

"The game got away from us in the sixth inning," observed Head Coach Kyler Lovgren. "Our approach to this game was to use it as an opportunity to rotate in some young pitchers. In general, our young guys did a good job throwing strikes."

Lovgren said Jett Slusser and Gunner Magill were able to go a couple innings and in the sixth Pomeroy had multiple missed opportunities defensively to help out and did not capitalize on them.

In the second game, the Bucs scored six in the third and another six in the fourth and blanked Liberty for a 13-0 win.

"We had a good showing on the mound in Magill, Roberts and Severs," Lovgren said. "They combined for 10 strike outs and no runs over five innings. I was also extremely impressed with our defense as a whole in the second game, where we were able to avoid errors."

Magill had a good day in the batter's box, smacking a pair of doubles and a single, and Severs clobbered two doubles as well. Roberts counted two hits and Vecchio, Cannon and Bryson were also in the hit column.
