The Lady Pirate Volleyball Team listens as Head Coach Adam Van Vogt gives pointers and talks strategy during Pomeroy's match in Dayton. The season is in the home stretch with one more away game and three home matches to wrap up the regular schedule.

POMEROY–It has been a long and winding road for the Lady Pirates lately. Except for the Regional Rumble on September 30, the last six matches the Lady Pirates have played have been on the road and they are 4-4 in league and 4-6 overall.

The Lady Buccaneers faced the Lady Bulldogs last Tuesday in Dayton and visit Asotin tonight before wrapping up the regular schedule with three home games: Colton, SJEL and Tekoa-Rosalia.

"After getting a league win on the road and playing better against Oakesdale than the last time we saw them, I see a lot of positives to take away from this past week and build on next week," said Head Coach Adam Van Vogt.

"I'm proud of our growth with our skills as well as how well we handled the pressure of game five," Van Vogt said. "These girls are doing a good job of using the experiences we take in games to learn and raise their game mentally as well as physically."

At Oakesdale, Van Vogt saw positives even though the team lost in three sets. "We serve received much better than the last time we played them and had a lot of good rallies, especially in games one and two," he commented.

Against Gar-Pal, the Lady Vikings "came out with energy and a pumped-up crowd" and won the first set. "But our girls got momentum late in the game and carried it over to take game two," Van Vogt said. "This started a back-and-forth night that saw us go to a game five.

"This Gar-Pal match would be the fourth straight road match for us," he continued, "and all four have gone to a fifth game. I believe our girls have used the prior experiences in game fives to help them be calmer in the moment and it showed.

"We didn't commit errors in the set and stayed aggressive, treating it like any of the earlier games that night while our opponent seemed less collected and confident en route to a 15-3 win," Van Vogt said. "Our serving really helped us as Taylor Gilbert had 14 aces and several runs where Gar-Pal just couldn't handle her float serves. Hannah Bagby added a 100% serving night and well-placed spot serves."
