First basketball games canceled due to covid

POMEROY–The Pomeroy Pirates' season opener against Liberty Christian was rescheduled out of an abundance of caution following a local student-athlete testing positive, and one of Liberty Christian's players also testing positive, Athletic Director Toddette McGreevy said early this week.

The game was to be played Saturday in Pomeroy, but is now on the schedule for January 19.

The non-league game against Asotin, played on Wednesday, December 8, did not include a boys' junior varsity game due to the lack of players.

A middle school boy tested positive Monday morning, McGreevy said. Since the player had not been in contact with teammates since the previous Thursday, the student athlete was sent home. The other boys on the team remained in school following negative covid tests.

Monday's Middle School games against Colton were canceled as a result.
