Pomeroy Middle Schoolers Kyzer Herres and Gunner Magill are Bi-State Wrestling Champions.
Gunner Magill finished his Junior High career with an undefeated season, going 21-0, said Coach Fred Knebel. Magill missed the record (22-0) by one due to not having another match scheduled. He did break Tory Knebel’s 2 Pt. Nearfall Record with 23 (previous record was 20).
Kyzer Herres came up one 3 Pt. Nearfall short of breaking the record of 35…he was trying to get one more 3 pt. Nearfall when the ref called the pin.
“I truly believe these wrestlers will have tremendous high school careers in wrestling and many more records will fall,” said Knebel.
Placing third for the Pirates were Michealle DeBord and Kole Zimmerman. DeBord placed third in both the girls and boys 121 lb. brackets. Placing fourth at Bi-State were Rory McKeirnan and Michael DeBord.
Levi Bowen, Marcus Parks, and James Blachly all gave a good showing but came up short regarding the podium.
Peyton Cannon went 6-0 before his season-ending injury that required surgery. “This was terribly disappointing as he really was becoming a tremendous wrestler,” Knebel said. “All of these wrestlers were fantastic to coach, they were always wanting to learn and they were at every practice. I was truly amazed at their dedication and will to learn. An absolute great bunch of kids to work with, super proud to be their coach!”
