Junior High Football undefeated

POMEROY––The Pomeroy Junior High Football team-small in numbers but potent in play-has won four games with a final game against Touchet remaining October 23.

The Pirates defeated DeSales Jr. Hi 44-0 in the first game, then won a home stand versus Tekoa-Rosalia 52-0. At St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse, the Pirates chalked up a 45-7 win. In Richland, the Liberty Christian Jr. Hi was no match for Pomeroy, winning 30-7 against a team with 20 players on the sidelines compared to Pomeroy nine.

At DeSales, the Irish were bigger and had more players, but the Pirates snuffed the passing game, says Coach Kyler Lovgren. "Caleb Miller and Conrad Nelson enjoyed a lot of time deep in the Irish backfield, racking up sacks and tackles for losses," Lovgren said. "The Pirate offense, led by Rory McKeirnan at running back and quarterback, proved to be too fast for DeSales."

A home stand against Tekoa-Rosalia saw Christian Gonzalez and Lincoln Lovgren shutting down the Timberwolf offense, and Tyler Dixon "cleaned up" any runners who got outside the defensive ends, Lovgren said.

At Endicott, Donyvan Hunter joined the nine-player team for one game, and the Pirates again dominated a physically larger team. Conrad Nelson ran well, Lovgren said, and Rory McKeirnan got to the edges, giving the Pirates a one-two punch. The line of Colton Field, Christian Gonzalez and Caleb Miller gave quarterback Lincoln Lovgren time to hit receivers like Treyton Kimble for two touchdowns.

In the next game, twenty Liberty Christian players suited up, but the Pirate Nine defense, including Rory McKeirnan at linebacker and Chance Savage covering receivers, shut them down. "McKeirnan and Nelson again ran around and through the opponent, leading the Pomeroy ground attack," Lovgren said. "Treyton Kimble was able to go up over a Liberty Christian defender to pluck a Lincoln Lovgren pass out of the air in the end zone for a Pirate touchdown."
