POMEROY––The first round of the 1B Eight-Man Football playoffs begins this Saturday when the Naselle Comets visit Lybecker Field for a 1 p.m. kickoff against the SE 1B second-place Pomeroy Pirates.

The Buccaneers are number eight in the eight-man ranks, identical record with seventh-place Mossyrock. In sixth is Wellpinit, fifth is Northwest Christian (Lacey), fourth is Almira-Coulee-Hartline, third is Liberty Christian, second is Wilbur-Creston-Keller and Liberty Bell is first.

Other Saturday games show Winlock visiting Neah Bay; ACH visiting Concrete and Darrington driving to Wellpinit.

The Pirates had no trouble with their final regular-season opponent, Yakama Nation Tribal, riding the 82-0 lopsided win with help from five defensive touchdowns.

Walker Flynn had a good day, getting the ball two times for 103 yards and two touchdowns in the first minute of the game, said Head Coach Kyle Kimble. "Those were the only two offensive plays the Pirates ran in the quarter," Kimble noted.

The Pirate defense would score four touchdowns and a safety in the quarter to complete a 50-0 opening to the game. David Tejero, Trace Roberts, and Peyton Cannon all collected fumble returns for touchdowns in the opening frame, while Braxton McKeirnan added a pick six, Kimble said.

"Our young guys played well on offense," Kimble said, "moving the ball on Yakama Nation Tribal's defense and adding four touchdowns over three quarters. Braxton McKeirnan had two rushing touchdowns, Levi Bowen added one rushing touchdown, and not wanting to be left out, Robby VanVogt ran a tipped ball interception in for another score," Kimble said.

"Our kids remained focused and did well in every phase of the game," Kimble said. "Cesar Morfin added three touchbacks and our kickoff coverage team had the Eagles pinned deep all day."
